Rev. Scott M. White, Pastor Scott was born in Iowa City, Iowa, raised there and in Morgantown, West Virginia, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Thirteen years into a successful career in information technology in Atlanta, GA, a time when matters of faith, family and church became increasingly important to him, he heard the call to full time ordained ministry and left it all to enroll full time at Columbia Theological Seminary, under care of the Committee on Preparation for Ministry of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. Four full years of study later, including 20 months of pastoral internships, Scott was ordained by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, at his home church in Duluth, Georgia, and was called to pastor the First Presbyterian Church of Escanaba, MI, beginning February 2004. a note from Scott Friends thanks for stopping by the web site. This is a great church that loves the Lord and seeks his will for the whole of our lives. It's a privilege to pastor here. Our ministries are ramping up and there is a great mix of things old and new going on. Stop by and say hi sometime. We make a good cup of "church coffee!" God loves you. Scott

D. Ann Wood, Director of Music a note from Ann I was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but raised here in Escanaba, the adopted daughter of Arol and Dudley Beck. Ours was a musical home—both parents were string musicians and music teachers. I began my music lessons with Claire Garrard, who was Director of Music at First Presbyterian for many years, and have been a member of the choir program at this church since 1957, first as a member of the children’s, youth, and Sanctuary choirs, and later as director of the children’s choir, then the handbell choir, and, since 1989, as Director of Music. I have a bachelor’s degree in speech/theatre from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in church music, choral conducting and handbell emphasis, from Concordia University Wisconsin. In addition to my work here at the church, I teach piano, orchestral strings, and voice to over sixty students in my studio at home; teach composition, research writing, interpersonal communications, and music classes part-time at Bay de Noc Community College; and conduct the Bay de Noc Choral Society. My husband Brian and daughter Tory are both musicians, as well. First Presbyterian Church has a strong commitment to excellence in music in worship, and we welcome any and all who have an interest in joining any of our musical groups or offering music in worship.

Miriam Kast White, Organist/Pianist A note from Miriam Greetings! My name is Miriam Kast White and I have been the organist/pianist here at First Presbyterian Church since the Fall of 2005. I was born in Columbus Georgia, but raised in the suburban Detroit area. I attended and have degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan. Before moving to Escanaba, my husband Scott and I lived for 16 years in Atlanta, Georgia where I worked in a variety of musical environments. Among the jobs was that of Associate Music Director at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Duluth, GA., a position I held for eight years and one that gave me not only a strong education in church music, but clear direction in my faith life. Our three children were born in Atlanta, but are thriving in the small town atmosphere of Escanaba. First Presbyterian is a wonderful church and is blessed with an excellent music program. We explore different styles and genres of music and welcome anyone interested in participating in our music making.

Chuck Briggs, Treasurer Chuck has been serving FPC as Treasurer since June 2004. Born and raised in the Escanaba area, he currently works as the Controller of the Riverside Group of auto dealerships in the central Upper Peninsula. He attained a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy in 1994 from Ferris State University. From there he got his first job in the accounting field at a public accounting firm in Madison, WI. After four years in Madison and badly missing the U.P., he returned and worked for the accounting firm of Anderson, Tackman & Company in Sault Ste. Marie. Three years later the opportunity at Riverside Auto Group came about and Chuck has lived in Escanaba ever since. In May 2005 Chuck and Wendy (Derouin) got married at FPC and have since settled in the Gladstone area. In his spare time Chuck enjoys going on long walks with his wife Wendy, playing basketball, lifting weights, golfing, bowling, working on home projects, and of course attending FPC services and events. Chuck is pleased to serve as our Treasurer and is happy to be a part of the church staff.

Brenda Adiska, Childcare Director a note from Brenda I was born and raised in Escanaba, Michigan. I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Development and with a Human Services degree. In 2002 after spending nine years in New York, I decided to come back home to Escanaba and spend time with my family and start a family of my own; which I did in 2005 when I married the love of my life and inherited his two beautiful daughters as my stepchildren. My work with children started professionally in Long Island, NY where I spent six years as a nanny for a wonderful family and ran a before school program for the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay. After juggling two jobs, I decided to take a full time position as a Child Care Director with the Club. Now that I am back home in Escanaba, I keep busy working with youth programs in my community and also volunteering as a big sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters. I am very grateful for my job with First Presbyterian Church. It has allowed me to be part of God’s Kingdom by teaching the word of the Lord to God’s most precious gifts; our children. God Bless, Brenda Adiska
